Who can afford to spend $22,000+ in one week for page ads? Ameren! Read more details below.NEW: A shadowy fossil-fuel aligned group funded by Ameren is trying to stop CEJA and instead pass a bailout for themselves, spending more than $22,000 on ads in just one week. This is an obvious attempt to raise rates & push a false, self-serving narrative. The new group is called “Downstate Energy” and claims to support Central and Southern Illinois communities, but in reality, it’s all about protecting the profits of this Missouri-based utility company and peddling myths to hurt the Clean Energy Jobs Act. Ameren has their own energy bill that they’re trying to pass, which would guarantee shareholder profits on the backs of Downstate customers through a rate increase. @ILAttyGeneral's office said this would be “very expensive for consumers..this bill has no guardrails for spending"While Ameren tries to stoke divisions and pit Northern IL and Downstate regions against each other, CEJA would bring the state together. CEJA was designed by thousands of Illinoisans from diverse communities across IL - not Ameren’s lobbyists and CEOs trying to turn a profit. It’s not surprising that Ameren opposes CEJA, because CEJA will finally hold them accountable & install an Independent Monitor at their company to oversee new ethics & transparency reforms. That Monitor will be taking a lot of trips over to their headquarters in Missouri...We know why Ameren opposes CEJA - they don’t want to be held accountable. But these ads do raise another question - where is all of this money coming from? Are ratepayers indirectly paying for $22,000 a week of ads, all so Ameren can charge them more money? We have less than two months before the legislative session ends, and profit-hungry companies like Ameren will keep trying to get in the way of progress and accountability. That’s why #CEJACantWait. Tell your legislators to pass CEJA before May 31st! bit.ly/cejacantwait ... See MoreSee Less
